See what a roster costs, and what it breaks, before it goes out
Your staff run down the side, the days run across the top, and each shift is a bar you can drag. Each day weighs its labour cost against the revenue you expect, so you can check a roster before you publish it and again once the day has traded. The engine is live in trade promotion today, and rostering is what we’re designing now with partners.
This board is a concept with fictional data, to show how a roster board could work.
What a roster has to get right
Every shift you move changes the hours, the cost and the rules at the same time. In a spreadsheet, those checks happen by eye, or not until payroll.
- Rest between shifts
- A close at 11pm followed by an open at 7am leaves only eight hours’ rest. Awards and agreements set a minimum break between shifts, and a spreadsheet won’t warn you when one is too short.
- What a shift really costs
- Weekend, evening and public holiday rates change what the same eight hours cost. The real total often only shows up at payroll, after the roster has gone out.
- Long days and double bookings
- An open and a close on the same day make a 16-hour day, and the same person can end up booked at two sites at once. Both are easy to miss when the roster is spread across tabs, sites and managers.
- Leave, availability and last-minute gaps
- Leave is tracked in one place and the roster in another. When someone calls in sick at 6am, you need both in front of you to find a replacement who is free and not over their hours.
Try moving Ben’s shift to Wednesday, Thursday or the weekend on the board above. It prices the shift against that day’s revenue as you drag.
The brands behind our experience
The experience behind Slotwise wasn’t built at Slotwise. It comes from our founder’s work deploying trade promotion management with some of the best-known consumer brands and retailers in Australia, and Slotwise is built on the lessons from that work. These are some of the businesses behind our experience.
These names and logos belong to their owners. They show where our experience comes from, not a customer relationship or an endorsement of Slotwise.
What a roster board like this would do for your business
Labour is one of the biggest costs you control week to week, and the roster is where it gets decided. We’re designing this board so you can see what a roster will cost before it goes out. Better rosters keep more of each day’s takings in the business, and give the people working them a calmer week.
-
Know what the week will cost before you publish it
Each shift would be priced at your own rates, including weekend and evening penalties, and each day’s labour weighed against the revenue you expect. You’d check the cost before the roster goes out, then compare it with what each day actually took.
-
Plan the week instead of patching it on the day
Rest between shifts and long days would be checked as you drag, with leave and availability shown above the roster. A manager could lock the published week, so any change after that is on the record.
-
See which days and shifts lose money
Days where labour eats too much of the takings, or costs more than the day brings in, would stand out while there’s still time to change them. You’d also see which shifts penalty rates make expensive. Small fixes like these, made every week, add up over a year.
-
AI that suggests, a manager who decides
When someone calls in sick, Claude could suggest who is free to cover the shift. The manager would accept or decline each suggestion, the same way AI proposals already work on our live trade promotion board.
What’s built, and what we’d build with you
Slotwise is a slotting-board engine: rows of whatever you schedule, a timeline, and events you drag. Trade promotion runs on it today, and a roster board would run on the same engine, with a rostering layer we design together with partners.
Already built
Live in trade promotion- The board gives you rows, a timeline and bars you drag, zoomed by day, week or month.
- Clash checks flag a double booking right on the board.
- Approvals, period locks and the audit trail make sure only the right roles can change approved or locked work, and every override is recorded.
- Live collaboration lets several people work on one board, with changes appearing for everyone without a refresh.
- Suggestion review and AI over MCP let Claude propose changes into a review tray, where a person accepts each one.
- Import, export and sign-in cover spreadsheets in both directions and Google or Microsoft single sign-on.
What we’d build with you
Future state- People, roles and shift types would be set up your way, including opens, closes, splits and on-call.
- Rostering rules would flag short rest between shifts and long days as you drag.
- Cost against revenue would show the expected cost before you publish and the actual cost after, by day, week and location.
- Leave and availability would sit above the roster, showing who can work when.
- Publishing with a lock would let a manager lock the week, so any later change is on the record.
- AI that proposes fills would let Claude suggest who could cover an open shift, for a manager to accept or decline.
None of this is built yet. We’d design each piece with partners, starting from your rules and your data.
Help decide what’s on this listHow the design partner program works
We work with a small group of teams, over a few working sessions each, and shape a roster board around your real rules and data.
-
Register interest
Tell us what you roster today and what goes wrong. The form below simply opens an email to us.
-
Discovery session
We walk through your rules, your data and how your team rosters now, with the people who’ll build the board.
-
Co-design
Over a few sessions we build a working board together and load it with your data.
-
Early access
Your team uses the board first and has a direct say in what gets built next.
What we ask
- Time for a few working sessions
- Sample data you’re allowed to share
- Honest feedback, including what’s wrong
What you get
- Early access to the board
- A direct line to the people building it
- Influence over the roadmap
Become a design partner for rostering
Tell us what you roster today and where it goes wrong. If there’s a fit, we’ll reply to set up a discovery session.
- This site stores nothing you type. The form only prepares an email for you to send.
- If you’d rather write it yourself, email info@neuralpeak.io.
Before you register
Is it built?
The engine is built and live in trade promotion, but the rostering layer isn’t built yet. People as rows, shift types and rostering rules are what we’d build with partners, and the board at the top of this page is a concept with fictional data.
What does registering commit us to?
Nothing at all. Registering sends us an email, and if there’s a fit we’ll suggest a discovery session. You can stop at any point.
Is our data safe?
Registering sends an email from your own email app, and this site stores nothing you type. If you join the program, you choose which sample data to share with us.
